Privacy Policy

Daily Mass Companion (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your information. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding data collection and usage in our mobile application.
1. Information We Collect
Local Device Storage
The Daily Mass Companion app stores the following data locally on your device only:
- Bookmarks: Scripture readings and homilies you choose to save
- Personal Notes: Your reflections and notes on readings
- Reading Plan Progress: Your progress through scripture reading plans
This data remains on your device and is not transmitted to our servers. If you delete the app, this data will be permanently removed.
Analytics Data (Collected Automatically)
To improve the app experience, we collect anonymous usage analytics by default. This includes:
- Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and app version
- Usage Data: Which screens you visit, features you use (audio playback, sharing, etc.), and general interaction patterns
- Session Data: Session duration and frequency of app usage
- Performance Data: App performance metrics and diagnostics
You can opt out at any time in Settings → Personal → “Help Improve This App” toggle. All analytics data is anonymous and cannot be used to identify you personally.
2. AI Chat Feature
When you use the “Ask & Reflect” chat feature, the following information is temporarily processed:
- Your questions and messages
- The current day's scripture readings (for context)
- Your conversation history within the session
- Your personal notes (if relevant to your question)
This data is sent to our secure cloud service (AWS) for AI processing to generate responses. We do not permanently store your chat conversations on our servers, and your messages are not used to train AI models.
3. Information We Do NOT Collect
Daily Mass Companion does not collect or require:
- User accounts, usernames, or passwords
- Email addresses or phone numbers
- Contact lists or personal contacts
- Payment information (the app is free)
- Your notes, bookmarks, or any content you create
- Chat conversations with the AI assistant
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected analytics information to:
- Understand how users interact with the app
- Identify and fix bugs and performance issues
- Prioritize feature development based on usage patterns
- Improve the overall user experience
5. Third-Party Services
Our app uses the following third-party services:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS): Hosts scripture content and processes AI chat requests
- OpenAI: Powers the AI chat feature for scripture discussion
- PostHog: Provides anonymous analytics to help us improve the app (you can opt out in Settings)
These services have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review them.
6. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the information processed through our app. Data transmitted to our cloud services uses industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS). Local data stored on your device is protected by your device's built-in security features.
7. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Analytics data is used solely to improve our app and is not shared with any third parties beyond our analytics provider (PostHog).
8. Children's Privacy
Daily Mass Companion is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
9. Your Rights
You have control over your information:
- Access: View your bookmarks and notes within the app
- Modify: Edit or update your notes at any time
- Delete: Remove individual items or uninstall the app to delete all local data
- Opt Out of Analytics: Disable analytics collection in Settings → Personal → “Help Improve This App”
To request access to or deletion of any analytics data we may have collected, please contact us at the email below.
10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
California residents have additional rights including:
- The right to know what personal information is collected
- The right to delete personal information
- The right to opt-out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell data)
- The right to non-discrimination for exercising privacy rights
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the “Last updated” date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
